Our Story

From 7 players
to 100+ athletes

Matcha Volleyball started as a small group of friends who loved the game and the community around it. What began as a single team quickly grew into a thriving volleyball family competing across divisions and tournaments in the Bay Area and beyond.

Today, Matcha Volleyball represents 100+ active players across multiple competitive teams, competing in VLA, NAGVA & regional tournaments. We're based in San Francisco and Silicon Valley, and we're the most diverse team in the Bay.

Free Youth Volleyball Clinics

Free clinics for kids in underserved Bay Area communities. Partnering with Boys & Girls Clubs of SF, YMCA, and SF Rec & Parks. Prioritizing neighborhoods where kids have fewer opportunities to play volleyball.

College Volleyball Watch Events

Group outings to Stanford Men's & Women's volleyball games at Maples Pavilion. Partnering with Menlo College, USF, and other Bay Area D1/D2 programs. Free transportation, meals, prizes, and meet-and-greets with college athletes.

Inclusion & Belonging

LGBTQ+ youth outreach through Matcha's diverse community. Creating safe spaces through volleyball for youth who may feel marginalized. Scholarship fund for low-income players to join competitive teams.

Neighborhood Pop-Ups

Bringing volleyball to SF parks like Golden Gate Park, Dolores Park, and Mission Bay. Free open gyms open to all skill levels, ages, and backgrounds.

School Partnerships

Working with SF Unified School District, East Side Union, and Bay Area rec centers to bring after-school volleyball programs to Title I schools.

Mentorship Pipeline

VLA players actively mentor youth and lower-level Matcha teams. Building a pathway from community clinics to beginner teams to competitive play at every level.
